AUDUBON RITUAL

Art by- Audubon K-8 classrooms (400 students)

Performed by room 201 (2nd grade)

Developed by Ms. Valenzuela, Loren Erdrich, and Angie Tillges

Rituals represent moments of collective activity, shared thoughts, emotion, and energy; ultimately, through rituals individuals develop a collective voice.

"Think Green" is a theme that allows us to think about how we engage with the environment and city around us and embrace our responsibility for its future.

This year Redmoon artists visited every class with a "Think Green" ritual kit.  The kit contained the sensory essences of wind, water, earth and fire.  Every classroom was asked to experience the environment inside this kit with all five senses. The students then developed poetic phrases in a free form poetry writing session and created banners with images of how they are responsible for the environment and city around them.

For the installation we-

  • wrote poetry about the environment
  • collaged banners to show our responsibility to the earth
